Continuing Care Retirement

Let’s face it; none of us knows what the future will bring. That is why Continuum Care Retirement Communities, commonly referred to as a CCRC, were developed. There are a number of CCRC’s in the Houston Metro.

The idea behind the plan was that you move once and never have to move out of the community again. Regardless of your health you are able to stay in the same community for assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing care.

Since the first Continuum Care Retirement Communities were built some things have changed. While traditionally you “buy in’ to a CCRC meaning that you pay a large sum to move into your independent home. A monthly maintenance fee will also be charged but it is usually less than the monthly rent you would pay at an Independent living Community. As your care level increases you are able to move into the assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing all right on the same campus. If you are married and your spouse does not need a higher of level of care they can remain in their own apartment but be close enough to visit daily without having to leave the community.

Many communities are now offering more of a modified CCRC. There is no buy in you simply rent month to month and you will have Independent Living, assisted Living and Memory Care. Some communities only offer assisted living and memory care. In Houston and the surrounding areas this is a common option.
